I find it hard to understand why Call of Duty 2 is 360 winner when clearly both Project Gotham 3 and Perfect Dark Zero are games which are much more fun to play.
Joe @ Dec 24th 2005 8:54AM
I can't believe Civ4 won PC. I'll have to see this thing for myself.
Jigga @ Dec 24th 2005 9:00AM
Civ is good, just too many bugs. It surprised me that it won best of PC. I'm just glad that God of War won for PS2 and beat out RE4. GoW was the best game for the PS2 overall
Yamfinger @ Dec 24th 2005 9:07AM
Man I knew it was a bad holiday season for games, but this proves it again...most of the winners were released at the START of the year. Jade Empire was what? April or May? Similar for God of War? I know RE 4 was in January...

The year isn't even over!
Tom @ Dec 24th 2005 11:41AM
Civ4 are you kidding me? Yeah, its a great design but its also the buggiest most unplayable piece of crap ever! And thats with the patch!
Shame on all those media outlets who continue to praise the game so as not to offend the God of Gaming, Sid Meier. Thanks Joystiq, for at least mentioning the problems so many of us are having with that game.
xbox360-forums.com @ Dec 24th 2005 11:52AM
I can imagine there have being high competition for that PSP award.
EMO NINJA @ Dec 24th 2005 12:00PM
I don't think Jade Empire should win best Xbox game. Even though it was good, it just shouldn't of won. Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory should of. Also some contenders should of been SW: Republic Commando and Battlefront II, and Forza
Embassy @ Dec 24th 2005 1:46PM
i think ninja gaiden black was easily the best xbox game...
slybri @ Dec 24th 2005 1:57PM
What's crazy is that Gamespot nominated Jade Empire in their "Most Dissapointing" category. Guess it was slim pickins for the Xbox this year. Glad I never bought one.

What else was better this year for the PC..? Civ 4 is good, stop ragging on it. >:(
SelfConshus @ Dec 24th 2005 3:03PM
RE4 is the game of the year. Better than everything on that list, but with God of War coming in close second.
AJ @ Dec 24th 2005 7:25PM
They should have a category for multi-platform games.
Embassy @ Dec 24th 2005 7:50PM
seeing as how the 360 came out the original xbox had a pretty good lineup...but most the good games were pc ports like half life 2 , doom3, far cry etc...and ninja gaiden is still easily rhe best action adventure game for the xbox...only game better than that all year was RE4 imo...
Oshi @ Dec 24th 2005 8:24PM
God of War & Resident Evil all the way!
Conn @ Dec 24th 2005 8:40PM
Jesus, God of War wins EVERYTHING.
ali @ Dec 24th 2005 10:15PM
i agree with GOW on ps2 and RE4 on GC but i think F.E.A.R. should have won the best pc game and even though jade empire was a good game, i think
splinte cell:ct or far cry: instincts should have won.
Jordan R @ Dec 25th 2005 12:42AM
Am I the only person who played Jade Empire for 30 minutes, scrolled through endless text, and returned it for $30 less than you paid for it?
As for 360, Call of Duty 2 ROCKS!!!
Its single-player game is the only shooter that can actually move you emotionally!
(well, Perfect Dark's lack of savepoints makes me cry, but that doesn't really count)
the_thriller @ Dec 25th 2005 4:03AM
18, you're just the only person who doesn't rent a game first.

Andrew, I admit that Civ4 is good, if you can overlook the massive ammount of showstopping bugs, even in the patched version. No I won't stop ragging on it though, since I paid $50 for a great game design, that was implemented in the most piss poor way possible.

Psychonauts was easily the best game I played all year. Too bad I'm one of only about six people who bought it.
Others I dug a lot were Jade Empire (kinda short, though), MVP Baseball 2005 and Condemned: Criminal Origins. Additionally, Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth looks promising, but I bought it the same week as my 360 and haven't played it yet. And the Halo 2 map pack was fantastic, but I wouldn't really call it a game. And Ninja Gaiden Black is probably totally sweet, but I already had Ninja Gaiden and didn't want to drop $30 for some extras.
I don't have a PS2 or GameCube, but I'll probably buy the next-gen hardware from both companies. I have to say that this was the first year as an Xbox owner that I thought the offerings on Xbox looked stronger than the ones on PS2. (I'd call 2004 about even.) The only titles from other platforms I coveted were God of War (PS2) and Resident Evil 4 (GameCube, if only for the better graphics.) Civ IV for the PC looks nice, but I'll have to wait until they decide to release it for the Mac.
Sergio Bonilla @ Dec 25th 2005 8:11PM
I think the Gamespot GOTY awards were better.
Murc @ Dec 27th 2005 5:34AM
One quick question:
I'm deciding which game to buy...which is the best?
Age of Empires III
Civilization IV
Empire Earth II
(i'm a fan of strategy games)
RocketPunch @ Dec 27th 2005 5:17PM
Yeah, Call of Duty 2 ROCKS!! ON A PC! for the 360 there are really no games and they probably spent a whole second to decide whats the best game for 360. If you enjoy washing your hair with your left foot, you will like playing FPS with a controller.
