Zelda: Twilight Princess gameplay footage

As if the delay hasn't been hard enough, we've teased you with rumors of Revolution compatability, and now here's a 30 minute video that's been floating around the web showing off actual gameplay footage. The video apparently dates back to a developer roundtable at E3 in May so if you've seen it before, move along. For everyone else still interested (myself included) enjoy!

from may, eh? that should give them plenty of time to sharpen up those textures, right? i mean, comon, the graphics in that video look more like the 64 than the 'cube.
Oshi @ Dec 28th 2005 10:46PM
That's some great footage. Now I want it more. >
Vagabond Artist @ Dec 28th 2005 10:49PM
that boss battle was amazing.
If the rest of the game is even half as good as that video we are really in for something special.
Someone in the room needs a cough drop! hahaha
sweet find, thanks for posting this.
CrAzY American @ Dec 28th 2005 10:51PM
meh... its nothing spectacular
Conn @ Dec 28th 2005 10:59PM
..WHAT, only 2 items?!
adam @ Dec 28th 2005 11:11PM
Beautiful...
Lynk @ Dec 28th 2005 11:26PM
No, 3 items. In the demo version the third item is replaced with a hint button but in the final version of the game the hint button will be replaced with a third item slot. The same was done with The Wind Waker.
Snake2k9 @ Dec 29th 2005 12:07AM
not impressed! I'm not buying this game and by watching the video I can tell this game won't be that succesfull.
Sorry I won't buy the Revolution period.
Snake2k9 @ Dec 29th 2005 12:18AM
Just the facts!
Okay first I was to not impressed at all I'm not going to bothered
playing the new Zelda game it just doesn't look that appealing to me,
and when Link is writing the horse that looks GAY! heck, even the
horse looks dumb the way they design the horse just looks HORRIBLE! I
like the horse from Kameo instead and the way it moves also.
One more thing that Zelda the game doesn't haves is a lot of enemies
in battle like Kameo.
The thing that I noticed from Zelda is that is a "wannabe" Kameo. And
I doubt Zelda will look better than Kameo because it won't! Kameo
looks pretty if your playing on High def TV

#7, this is a GAMECUBE GAME

Xbox fanboys may blow me.
I am going to preorder this game.
n3rrd @ Dec 29th 2005 12:43AM
Why can't the negative comments ever come from someone with the slightest bit of intelligence? Snake2k9, your comment is oh so frusturating to read. You hit the enter key way too many times there. I get the feeling that you don't even own a GameCube...
Anyhoo! I don't understand the point in getting all worked up about a video for a game that isn't listed for release until Nov 2nd, 2006.
I really enjoyed the visual style of Wind Waker and am some what disappointed to see it go! The video is interesting though.
leojsoap @ Dec 29th 2005 12:51AM
Of course it won't be succesful, you can't run over hookers in a stolen car. This game will suck without one dimensional elements that appeal to the morons in the male 18-25 demographic.
I'm looking forward to a Mirror Sheild that doesn't look stupid (MM & WW), and Revolution compatability.
anonymous @ Dec 29th 2005 12:55AM

The reason why there weren't enough enemies was because this was the start of the game.
And obviously ANY game will look good via High Def.
Kevin H. @ Dec 29th 2005 12:59AM
Not only does this look incredible, but the version that we get in our hot little hands will show a YEAR'S worth of improvement. Wow!
Natrino @ Dec 29th 2005 1:01AM
Comparing Zelda with Kameo? Comparing a system that came out in 2001 with a system that came out in 2005. Wow.
Zelda is a Kameo ripoff? You have to be kidding me.
Ignorance must be bliss.
threefingerdlouie @ Dec 29th 2005 1:19AM
N-A-A-A-H!! I liked the first ZELDA better. What a sorry looking bunch of trolls! They look like inbread Oakies looking for their next fix! They should have included an outhouse on the hill and a still in the town square to complete the sorry package! The horse is a dumpy looking fartbag and would probably be better off pulling a rusty plow in some far away sod patch.Besides,Link is undeniably GAY and the chickens aren't much fun! Snake 2k9 is 100% correct-this is just a cheapo wannabe rip-off of KAMEO. Now if you will excuse me, I'm going back to my awesome Xbox 360 and I'll leave this gagfest to the Nintendo fangirls [tee-hee!]
Erick @ Dec 29th 2005 1:23AM
I'm sorry to say but I also wasn't that impressed by the video, I've been a fan of zelda all my life but this video doens't look that impressive to me, maybe its just that we have seen all those new gen games and now to compare then together, zelda doesn't look that good.
Aaron @ Dec 29th 2005 1:32AM
"The thing that I noticed from Zelda is that is a "wannabe" Kameo."
Snake2k9, don't even compare Kameo to Zelda. I have played Kameo, and I much rather play any Zelda game then play Kameo. Zelda's controls are wonderful, Kameo is painful and a dissappointment. Kameo tries to be pokemon(way before it was going to be a xbox 360 game, the characters were supposed to evolve). Zelda came way before Kameo and is following how Ocarina of Time plays, not trying to copy Kameo in any way. I dont understand where you get that idea. And Zelda probably wont look any better then Kameo considering its a Gamecube game, Xbox 360 oviously has much more horsepower then the last/current-gen gamecube.
deathscythe @ Dec 29th 2005 2:34AM
...wow. I've never heard anything more retarded, snake...scratch that, you give retards a bad name. but I digress...
I saw this video a longass time ago when it first came out. Its still quite impressive though.

Zelda being a "wannabe" Kameo is a lil' backwards.
1st a lil' History on Kameo; Kameo was origanally devoloped on the Gamecube then canned.
Production Kameo moved to Xbox and adventually canned and now Xbox360.
If your'll a fan of Kameo than you'll be a Fan of Zelda: Kameo is the wannabe.

The first Kameo game was on the Xbox360. 2005.
The first Zelda game debuted on the NES. 1987.
Do the math, moron.

im not really a nintendo fan and skipped the GC this generation but i have enough sense to acknowledge ocarina of time as one of the best games ever made ans zelda as one of the greatest franchises even concieved...with that said, this looks cool but hopefully with the extra time they have to refine it , it will look a lil better... but i have a feeling this will be like perfect dark one or conkers bad fur day for the 64...too little way too late...hopefully the Rev interactivity will help that...cuz im def not buying a GC for this game..
Merus @ Dec 29th 2005 3:50AM
This is the footage from the E3 demo.
You all ARE aware of that, right? This footage is about a year old now. It's also being filmed on a screen while it's being played by developers, so it does look pretty bad.
I promised myself that I wouldn't read anything on Zelda so I could go in fresh. Hopefully, I haven't spoiled things too much for myself.
Errorist @ Dec 29th 2005 3:53AM
Man... If this game does have the Revmote features from that GCN article, I can't wait to play it with it.
Looking at that movie, near the start is the new instrument... If the microphone is within the Revmote, is it a possibility that blowing into the remote will be utilised?
deathscythe @ Dec 29th 2005 4:06AM
Well, at the very least you have to respect Nintendo for its dedication. If it were MS, I'm sure they would have shifted development to the next gen for such a large game as this. Also for the record, Zelda:TP will have revolution "extras" when played on it ala Oracle of seasons. Also Miyamoto and staff are making every effort to make this the best Zelda game of its kind. One of the things they've done with the extra time given to them is use motion cap for realistic movements.
Well it is definitly a bit late to get a cube now but there are plenty of other reasons to get a cube:
Metroid Prime
Smash Bros
Wind Waker
F-Zero
Any Mario Sports title and Party.(Put down Mario Party all you want and poke fun at it because there are so many, doesn't change the fact that every single one I've played has been a blast to play with friends)
RE4
Pimkin
Paper Mario
Eternal Darkness
amongst others to keep the list short.
yay @ Dec 29th 2005 8:42AM
Eh, doesn't look that great to me. I guess my GC is now officially in it's eternal slumber.
Matthew @ Dec 29th 2005 9:10AM
I have yet to play a Zelda game that I didn't love. The Big N has always been known for its delays so waiting is just part of the process.
As for the negative comments...all I can say is 'What are you so afraid of?' It sounds like you would have criticized the game no matter how it looked or played. Are you worried that if Nintendo proves very successful, that the huge money you spend on your next-gen system will be for nothing?
More than any other franchise I know, the Zelda series represents the creme de le creme of console gaming. (The CD-I stuff doesn't count and I don't think it was developed by Nintendo.) I wouldn't call myself a fanboy...as I have every system but the PSP and XBOX 360...but the reason all of us are salivating and anxiously awaiting this title is because the franchise's proven track record of putting out well-polished, flawlessly-controlled, and thoroughly engrossing games...period. I don't even need a demo to want this game.
recklessgemini @ Dec 29th 2005 9:21AM
this'll be the game to wake up my GC from it's "eternal slumber" (last game I played was RE4). I'm not going to get the revo for it's extra's feature though. Still looks like a damn gimmick to me.
To all you shmucks spewing crap about the game... have you ever played a Zelda game? No? You should.
GlitchCog @ Dec 29th 2005 9:34AM
The thing that bothers me from the clips I've seen of Twilight Princess is how Link's feet slide around. There's this one scene 43 seconds into this trailer:
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-4941591982818075438
where it's really obvious. Link is battling some monsters and his feet are slipping around like he's on ice. Why can't the programmers just fix his feet to one spot unless they're up in the air? Twist his ankle a little instead of this sliding thing. I've seen this sliding effect in other games too (try walking slowly in Dragon Quest 8), and it always looks terrible. Is this difficult to program or something? I really hope they fix it for Zelda.
GlitchCog @ Dec 29th 2005 9:42AM
Somehow there is a line break tag attached to the end of that URL... I dunno. Here's a second try.

Jonathan @ Dec 29th 2005 9:53AM
I can't believe this comment section isn't flooded with people saying how excited they are about the game. I for one am really excited.
There's no doubt Nintendo has been working hard on this game, and that they're trying to make it the best Zelda ever. IMO, if it's the best Zelda ever, then it's the best game ever.
BlackYoshi @ Dec 29th 2005 10:05AM
Yeah, this is E3 old. Just someone actually compiled it all together, unlike IGN which had it in sections for easy download. But I am massively pumped about this game.
Snuks @ Dec 29th 2005 10:29AM
Wow the 360 fangirls are all over this bitch? I guess they're feelin a little threaten... by a previous gen console game. How's the killer app withdrawals treating you guys o_0?
recklessgemini @ Dec 29th 2005 11:00AM
G-Clog, I know what you mean. In DQ8 I especially hate to see him standing on air when at a hill. Minor things like that can kill a game a for me.
FEEZY @ Dec 29th 2005 11:02AM
damn, there are some ppl in this room that are already convinced that they wont buy it and wont be successfull... haha. jumping to conclusions are for @$$holes only.
all the zelda games (cept one) were successful at THE LEAST, and i honestly think that TP is gonna be waaaay better than wind waker
DCSimian @ Dec 29th 2005 11:05AM
Ok, I don't care what system you play, but to call Zelda a Kameo knockoff is ridiculous. Learn your game history before you make stupid comments. As others have stated, Zelda came first...way before Kameo was even conceptually realized.
Kameo may look good on a *cough* "next-gen" *cough* system, but I'll take Zelda over a half-assed adventure game attempt any day.
For the record, Kameo does look good when you play it...too bad it's a Majora's Mask knockoff.
Jon @ Dec 29th 2005 11:42AM
Zelda is a ripoff of Kameo?! That's clearly the dumbest thing ever typed on Joystiq. Thats like saying Mad Max is a ripoff of Waterworld. If you walked into Rare's office and told them that there was a game coming out called "zelda" that was ripping off Kameo they would laugh in your face. Even Rare will admit they were inspired by Zelda.
910do @ Dec 29th 2005 12:25PM
...The truth is , Kameo is a "Zelda Majora's mask knockoff", yes you heard it, the game development started when Zelda MM was finished, and it has the same gameplay transformation mechanics, Rare is known as making Nintendo ripoff games , not the opposite, and Rare games in the Nintendoera were good, only because of two things ( Martin hollis and Nintendo supervision ) , look now, they can't even produce a decent game, conker live is a shame, a disgrace to the original conker BFD ( one of my favorite games ever), and don't get me started on PD zero, goldeneye 64 is 10 times better , even with boxy n64 graphics !!!. Zelda TP is the real successor to the best game of all time , ZELDA OOT, and I beleive it will be an amazing gaming experience.
Matthew @ Dec 29th 2005 12:49PM
I also agree with #37. It seems that Rare was much better when they were working under Nintendo's supervision. Actually, it seems that every company that works under Nintendo's supervision produces amazing games. Look at Silicon Knights with Eternal Darkness, or Rare with Metroid Prime. It'll be interesting to see how Silicon Knights does now that they're not apart of Nintendo anymore. I do have faith in them though. The sole reasons that Silicon Knights and Rare were separated from Nintendo were because of philosophical differences. But it seems that Nintendo's philosophy is actually on the right track. I know, by reading many forums (too much time on my hands) that many people are excited about the Revolution, myself included. And just look at the DS. That thing is a monster in disguise, it's doing awesome. Both in terms of software and hardware. It's obvious that I love Nintendo, but that doesn't mean I hate the other companies. I don't. I personally want to see a healthy industry, and it seems that Nintendo are freshening things up, which is something I like. And oh yeah, I'm excited for Zelda: Twilight Princess. lol. Peace out!
Blizz419 @ Dec 29th 2005 12:55PM
um Rare had absolutly nothing to do with metroid mathew, that was Retro
jopojelly @ Dec 29th 2005 1:07PM
well, it looks alright in that demo, but they have lots of time to improve it, so it will obviously look a lot better.
I thought it was funny how link gets on the horse. heheh.
And chicken flying....best thing ever. and remember the scene for the trailer when link goes underwater...that was some awesome graphics. And saying that the graphics look bad?, well, you got to realize that its:
1. a year old,
2. from a videocamera thats shaking all the time,
3. on google video, and google reduces the quality of all of the videos for the internet.
And...if you think you need a higher resolution for better images....play your xbox360 for a while, and then switch to watch some dvds. If you dont notice any difference, go to an eye doctor, if you do, consider yourself wrong.

no need to convince people ZTP going to be a helluva game. Let them miss out, who give a f***.
Todd @ Dec 29th 2005 1:26PM
According to gamestats.com this game is the most wanted and the 2nd most popular. They also have 2 previous titles listed in the top 10 highest rated games of all time. With Ocarina of Time setting at the number one spot the whole time.
It really doesn't matter how much moaning, wailing, and gnashing of teeth the trolls and fanboys do. Zelda is money in the bank for Nintendo. It's really nothing they can say that doesn't come out sounding like ludicrous babbling since this franchise is so well loved and has had such massive success.
Tell me exactly how it can hurt Nintendo to release this game late in the Gamecubes life? It will sell millions, and it will sell Gamecubes too. It may even bring about a shift of the Gamecubes position from 3rd to 2nd place in America. If I was a Microsoft fan, I too would be upset that my console of choice lost the race just because it gave up early in favor of getting a jump start on the next race.
Sloopydrew @ Dec 29th 2005 2:06PM
Best. Graphics. Ever. With a little more polish (which there will be), these graphics are unmatched on a console. Seriously, have we seen anything this good on the 360?
